Marine mammals show a substantial amount of geographical variation in their behaviour patterns. Even within the same species vocal repertoires differ between different sites. This may be caused directly by differences in habitat or indirectly through the effects of the environment on the social behaviour and social structure of a population. To fully explore all possible causes of variation we are interested in a variety of other factors that may affect communication behaviour. These include ranging patterns, foraging behaviour and association patterns of dolphins.
