iGEM is an international competition in synthetic biology. Student teams from
around the world undertake 10-week summer research projects. They compete in regional
competitions in the Autumn, the winners of which head to MIT in Boston, MA, USA for the
world competition.
Synthetic biology is an exciting new field of research, bridging the biological and the physical and computational sciences. Standard biological parts, known as 'biobricks', are used to create circuits within living cells.
