Recently he was awarded a £1.4M UKRI Future Leaders Fellowship to start his research group on Computational Microscopy. Tom’s research interests in this area date back to his PhD on hybrid optical-digital imaging systems at Heriot-Watt University. He later translated these principles to microscopy at the Optical Manipulation Group in St Andrews. This work resulted in a highly-cited Nature Methods publication, multiple patents, and subsequent commercialisation. After stays in Madrid, Guangzhou, MIT, and Exeter, Tom returned to Scotland. Here he aims to apply his cross-disciplinary experience to see beyond the depth limit in microscopy.

Research areas:

Novel light-sheet microscopy

Computational imaging

Tom Vettenburg research group

Tom Vettenburg joined the University of Dundee in 2018 as a Lecturer in Physics.
