{"id":1439,"date":"2021-12-13T14:25:31","date_gmt":"2021-12-13T14:25:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biology.st-andrews.ac.uk\/edi\/?page_id=1439"},"modified":"2024-11-27T10:19:51","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T10:19:51","slug":"lgbt","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/biology.st-andrews.ac.uk\/edi\/lgbt\/","title":{"rendered":"LGBT+"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>The University of St Andrews is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stonewall.org.uk\/diversity-champions-programme\">Stonewall Diversity Champion<\/a>, and the School of Biology is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive working environment in which all students and staff can be their authentic selves and reach their full potential. <span>\u00a0<\/span>LGBT+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and related communities, recognising the various ways that people self-identify in terms of their sexual orientation or gender identity.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a href=\"https:\/\/biology.st-andrews.ac.uk\/edi\/lgbt\/lgbt-role-models\/\">LGBT+ role models<\/a><\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>To celebrate International LGBT+ in STEM day (18<sup>th<\/sup> November 2022) we have developed a page to showcase some of our LGBT+ role models in the School of Biology. They have kindly shared their stories and are happy to be contacted with questions or to discuss other concerns.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beacon Activities<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><strong>Pronouns. <\/strong>The BEDI committee has developed <a href=\"https:\/\/universityofstandrews907.sharepoint.com\/sites\/biointernal\/EDI\/public\/BEDI-guidance-pronouns.pdf\">guidance on using personal pronouns<\/a>.<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li><strong>Publications:<\/strong> members of the school have published thought-provoking articles\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/d41586-021-03482-7\">Adopting as academics: what we learnt<\/a>\u00a0(Nature Careers Column, Ly &amp; Bailey 2021)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Students<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The university has compiled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/students\/advice\/lgbtq\/\">support and information<\/a> for the LGBT+ student community, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/policy\/staff-equality-diversity-and-inclusion-trans\/trans-policy.pdf\">policy and guidance on Trans Staff and Students<\/a>. \u00a0There is also\u00a0<span>a\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saintslgbt.com\">Saints LGBT+ group<\/a><span>\u00a0<\/span><span>for students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We have a\u00a0<span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/policy\/student-administration-non-academic-discipline\/student-harassment-and-bullying-policy.pdf\">Student Harassment &amp; Bullying Policy<\/a>, and complaints or concerns should be reported via the University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/reportandsupport.st-andrews.ac.uk\/\">Report and Support tool<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Staff<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The University\u2019s website has <span>a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.st-andrews.ac.uk\/policy\/staff-equality-diversity-and-inclusion-trans\/trans-policy.pdf\">policy and guidance on Trans Staff and Students<\/a>, and <\/span>a history of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.st-andrews.ac.uk\/long-reads\/lgbt-life\/\">LGBT+ life at St\u00a0Andrews<\/a>.<span>\u00a0There is an active\u00a0<\/span><a
