Nathan Bailey and his husband Tony Ly have written a recently-published piece in Nature Careers called “Adopting as academics: what we learnt” about the exploits and difficulties of adopting as a two-academic family.

While the focus of their piece is about navigating the process of adoption while navigating academic work-life-balance, it’s also relevant to their story that Nathan and Tony are a gay couple in a mixed-ethnicity marriage and who are both immigrants in this country. Ensuring the article had a positive tone was important for them both, as they wanted to help ensure there are positive role models and stories about adoption for prospective adopters as well as people who are adopted.
