University change to Chemical Management processes
Over the summer the School of Biology along with all Science Schools at the University will adopt a new chemical management process for category 4 and 5 chemicals. This will standardise the way all Schools are recording the use and storage of these chemicals, which is necessary for insurance, risk and compliance purposes.
Science School H&S officers and EHSS have helped to develop the process which tracks only the most dangerous chemicals we handle, yet which is scalable for the recording and management of all chemicals as required by some Schools.
The new process is not technically advanced and is an interim measure. However, Schools will be expected to establish chemical audits in line with the new process between May and August. Progress will be monitored and reported to the AVP Dean of Science and Asset Management project board monthly.
The AVP Dean of Science and relevant colleagues will be holding briefing sessions for Heads of Schools and H&S Managers, at which a detailed overview of the changes will be presented. We will update you when we know more about the new process and how it is going to impact on Biology.
