We have increased uptake:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bias training increased from 17% (2015) to 76% (2017) of the School (now including PhD students). \u201c<em>very useful and eye-opening\u2026has had positive impacts on my understanding of fairness<\/em>\u201d &#8211; <strong>feedback from postgraduate student<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Recruitment training increased from 43% (2015) to 100% (2017) of academic staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>New interview refresher: <\/strong>prior to convening interview panels for staff and student recruitment, BE&amp;D chair requests staff involved to review the university website about unconscious bias and to watch two short videos about bias:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=dVp9Z5k0dEE\">Royal Society video: Understanding Unconscious Bias<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/watch?v=g978T58gELo\">EU Institucio CERCA video: Recruitment Bias in Research Institutes <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>Refreshing just prior to interviewing is a really good idea<\/em>\u201c &#8211; <strong>feedback from male Professor<\/strong>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unconscious bias (excerpt from our submission) In 2016 we increased frequency of monitoring of staff training completion, sending bi-monthly reminders to staff who had not undertaken relevant modules.
