{"id":210,"date":"2022-11-28T15:55:52","date_gmt":"2022-11-28T15:55:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/biology.st-andrews.ac.uk\/research\/?post_type=research_group&#038;p=210"},"modified":"2022-12-21T10:20:37","modified_gmt":"2022-12-21T10:20:37","slug":"gunn-moore","status":"publish","type":"research_group","link":"https:\/\/biology.st-andrews.ac.uk\/research\/research-group\/gunn-moore\/","title":{"rendered":"Gunn-Moore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>My group has made major discoveries in understanding the cellular and biochemical mechanisms involved in the early stages of Alzheimer\u2019s disease (linking mitochondrial and synaptic dysfunction), where we have pioneered new models (including the first identification that cetaceans also show similar pathology) and identified potential therapeutic targets with resultant industrial collaboration for novel inhibitors (filed patents). Using both molecular and novel biophysical techniques, we have also discovered novel biochemical pathways that are involved in the growth and development of mammalian neurons.
