Year 2 Biology Tutorials and Year 3 Biology Tutorials are compulsory for
- 2nd year students taking four or more BL coded modules in whole academic year,
- and all 3rd year students reading for a School of Biology degree
Overview
Tutorial Arrangements
Biology Tutorials for Year 2 and Year 3 students build on previous tutorial activities and content from Biology modules. Typically, there are 6-8 tutees in each tutorial group, although this can vary. There will be 4 tutorials each semester. Where possible, the Biology Teaching Office endeavours to best match student degree programmes and tutors’ interests when arranging tutorial groups.
Tutors will contact tutees via email, at the start of the semester, to introduce themselves and confirm tutorial dates/times/locations. Note that times may change subject to tutor/tutee commitments, so please check your email regularly to note any changes.
Tutorial Aims
The tutorials offer an informal, supportive learning environment in which you can explore Biology with students studying similar degrees, while developing your Biologist skills and your self-confidence in applying these skills. In Year 2, you will work on core skills and in Year 3 you will progress to more advanced skills. The tutorials also present an opportunity to build a productive relationship with your tutor which should be useful for your preparation for your next step after your degree (e.g. discussions about career directions, writing references).
