School of Biology PGR Conference 2022

Another year, another PGR Student Conference organised by the School of Biology! PGR students presented and discussed their research to their peers at the University of St Andrews Laidlaw Music Centre. Three days with a full house of staff and students from all corners of the School!

On the third day, Lynette gave us a talk on inferring population genetic parameters in regions of varying GC content using a Markov-Chain-Monte-Carlo algorithm based on the boundary-mutation Moran model. She’s applied her method to exon sequences of populations of Sumatran and Bornean orangutan. Later that day, Carolin contributed to a panel of academics within the School who discussed their career paths and gave advice on how to transition from PhD to postdoc.

After a very inspirational few days, BioNet sent us off with a traditional Scottish ceilidh at the University of St Andrews Students’ Association.
