Marcus Bischoff – School of Biology

I graduated with a Diploma in Biology from the Technical University of Braunschweig (Germany). I carried on in Braunschweig to obtain my PhD with Prof Ralf Schnabel working on cell polarity and cell migration in the C. elegans embryo. Then I moved to Cambridge (UK), where I did a postdoc with Dr Peter Lawrence, first at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology and then at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Zoology. In the Lawrence lab, I started to work on abdominal morphogenesis of Drosophila. I joined the School of Biology in St Andrews as a lecturer in 2013.
Research areas:
- Developmental and cell biology of Drosophila
- Cell behaviour during morphogenenesis
- In vivo 4D microscopy
- Cytokeletal dynamics
- Cell migration and apical constriction, tissue mechanics
