Kishan Dholakia – School of Physics and Astronomy
Kishan Dholakia (FRSE, OSA Fellow, SPIE Fellow) obtained his PhD in Lasers Physics from Imperial College. He was a Royal Society of Edinburgh Research Fellow at the University of St Andrews (1997-2000) and become Professor of Physics in 2003. He has been awarded over £32M in research funding since 2000 and delivered > 200 invited/Plenary/Keynote talks at major international conferences. He is recipient of numerous awards including the SPIE Dennis Gabor Award (2018), the Institute of Physics Thomas Young Medal and Prize (2017) and the OSA R. W Wood Prize (2016). His research has resulted in the world’s first compact optical trapping suite (Elliot Scientific Ltd) and the first commercialised Airy beam light-sheet technology with M Squared Life and many patents in the fields of Raman spectroscopy, beam shaping, manipulation and imaging. His work is cited in the Guinness Book of Records for the ‘fastest man-made rotating object’. His research interests cover pretty much everything related to optics.
